Harajuku Greasers

How on Earth did I miss this clip?!
It features a crew of dyed in the leather greasers from Harajuku during their afternoon dance sessions

Merckx Volvo

Easily the coolest support vehicle found around town during the Tour Down Under.
Unfortunately the shots were hurried and over exposed so I've had to process the hell out of them to get any detail to show and we still can't see the "Velo Eddy Merckx" or classic Volvo stickers

From the Archive

Just going through the images I've hoarded over the years, many are uncreditable.

This was my wallpaper for quite some time:

Random Image #38: Tri Colour

It's a combination that works well: deep reds and greens on white with black pinstriping.

In The Bends

5dmkii HD upload test from sean jay on Vimeo.

This simple little video reminded me why I used to love driving. Throw it deep into the corner, braking late, and powering out with just a minute amount of squirm due to the speed rather than power. Makes me miss my little old Cortina.

A Bit Cross

While I'm not a fan of the religious associations of the cross, I guess I could wear it and revel in the irony.
The part that I'm most impressed with is the production process, initially I'd assumed it was cast or forged but these methods can be expensive on a short run so the choice of laser sintered stainless makes perfect sense. It's great to see this once cutting-edge process filtering down to become accessible to artists and independent designers.

Sleek Bikes

This is Frank's Frank from the Fixed gear gallery his description: "...my first single speed bike. I designed and baked the carbon frame..." That's quite a first try!

Finally, an attractive threadless stem! (just disregard the sprockets mid ratio change)

Eddy's Cervelo
One of my shots of Eddy's Cervelo. I love the dual position seat post on this bike.

Some Assembly Required #3: Scooter McRad

I've been watching Scooter McRad's car coming together for some time now, it's getting close and I'm really keen to see how it looks once fully detailed and painted.

High [and low] Art

wall 2

I have an infatuation for street art, I'm always stopping to observe and photograph the 'installations' I find. Here are a few I've shot recently. All are from my Flickr stream

cops

I count myself lucky that our cops are [generally] pretty level headed and just going about their job. Take for example, a recent little suburban red light infraction, sure the parking across the road was overkill, but after her initial vocal greeting the woman on point was courteous and professional.

Contrast that with the ridiculous treatment of some polo players in Milwaukee:
"We were then told by one of the officers that we were being detained but no[one] is under arrest, specifically he said “if you are asked by a cop or employer have you ever been arrested say no”. We were then zipped tied and the officers explained that we would be going downtown to be processed"

Moser

JLN, one of the local fix cats has just built up this stunning looking Moser.
Sssh, don't tell anymone it's a fake, besides the story of someone commissioning a Moser look-alike and using quality tubing and components is much more interesting anyway.

WOW! So much bike jewellery but I'm lusting after that tool kit.

Miss Elise

Cafe Girl

Gary Inman is on a road trip for the Las Vegas Indoor Short Track Championships, he spotted this girl on the streets of LA. This makes me want to pull the Kwak out from under the cover and put it back on the road, though I have to face the reality that I'll never look [be] as cool as this girl.

I need to get an oven so I can cook these, I'm sure I can bypass that need somehow...

Wednesday Night Polo

Night polo is a gogo this Wednesday.
We will congregate at Dumpling King (Moomba Street, China Town) at from around 6pm for some pre-game nourishment then head up to the market carpark at around 7pm. There is not an easy way to describe how to get to the part we play, so if you get there after we have left, just go up the Gouger Street entrance and head as far north-west as you can. Or call one of us.

Flosculation

:an embellishment or ornamentation in speech.

Anyone with a penchant for lingistics will appreciate Save the Words. It's a depository for interesting but nearly extinct words with a brief description of each word, and if you should take a particular liking to a word or two, you can choose to adopt them and pledge to use them as often as possible.
The last bit is a little naff, but it's an interesting site and concept.

How To Change a Flat

It was initially the header that drew my attention to How To Change a Flat, the great mix of photography, timeless style and vintage Volkswagen. It is a fantastic library of [primarily] feminine style mixed in with classic images and curios, whether you're after style inspiration or just enjoy looking at pretty ladies it's worth spending a few minutes scanning through.

Purged

If anyone reading this is curious about the flurry of post in the last few weeks, the reasons are two fold:

Firstly I'm only employed part time right now so in the time between work, riding, my own projects and life in general, I've been cleaning up my Firefox tabs. Anyone who has seen my browser in recent times can vouch for the downright scary number of pages open at any one time. I've now pared them down to the bare minimum of email accounts, this, Reader and one or two things to chase up. I had to take a screen shot for prosperity. FREEDOM!!

The second is that late in the year I organised to send my computer in for warranty work and am taking the opportunity to start fresh by letting them wipe it clean and clear out all the trash. Hopefully that will solve my uploading issue (the reason I've not put any of my own photography up lately). It's heading out tomorrow so I'll be off the web for a little. I will be working on my back-up computer and checking emails etc, but I'll be leaving the blog mostly untouched for a week or so. I have however scheduled some of the material I had prepared to be posted in my absence.

I also just wanted to thank all of you out there who read my ramblings and view all the stuff I find interesting. I've met some great people directly due to this blog (and the wider blog-o-sphere) and I look forward to meeting the rest of you one day.

Thank you all and may the coming year bring you all you hope of it.

-Daniel.
